About Our Nutcracker
For generations, The Nutcracker has captivated audiences around the world with its enchanting story, beautiful music, and magical characters. Each December, Elite Dance Academy proudly presents our own production, giving dancers the opportunity to perform in a professional-style theatrical production alongside fellow students and guest performers.
Throughout the rehearsal process, dancers build confidence, improve their technique, develop stage presence, and experience what it takes to be part of a full-scale ballet production.
From sparkling Snowflakes and elegant Flowers to energetic Party Scene children and the iconic Sugar Plum Fairy, every role contributes to bringing this holiday classic to life.
Our production is one of the highlights of the Elite Dance Academy season and has become a tradition our families look forward to year after year.

Why Participate?
Who can Audition?
The Nutcracker is open to Elite Dance Academy dancers who meet the minimum age and training requirements for each role.
We offer opportunities for dancers of many different ages and experience levels, from our youngest performers to advanced company dancers.
Some roles may require pointe work or advanced ballet training, while others are perfect for dancers just beginning their performance journey.
Annual Auditions
Every August, Elite Dance Academy holds auditions for our annual production of The Nutcracker.
Auditions are designed to help directors determine the best casting for each role while giving every dancer an opportunity to showcase their abilities.
During auditions, dancers may be asked to demonstrate:

Across-the-floor combinations

Musicality
-
Performance quality
-
Flexibility and movement
-
Pointe work (where applicable)
Casting is based on many factors, including technique, performance quality, rehearsal attendance, and production needs.
Adult Opportunities
One of the things that makes our Nutcracker production so special is the involvement of our community.
Each year, we invite adults from our dance family and the community to participate in select roles—including our beloved Party Scene.
No previous dance experience is required for many adult roles, making this a fun and memorable way to be part of the production alongside your children.
Everyone is welcome to audition.

What to Wear

Casting
Casting decisions are based on several factors, including a dancer's technique, artistry, performance quality, and the overall needs of the production. While dancers may audition for a variety of roles, not every role will be cast in every age group.Following auditions, families will receive additional information regarding casting, rehearsals, costume requirements, and performance dates.
